Lavaca County Courthouse Restoration

Hallettsville, TX

The 1899 historic Lavaca County Courthouse, listed in the National Register of Historic Places, is a masterpiece of Romanesque Revival designed by notable Texas architect, Eugene T. Heiner of Houston and modeled after the county courthouse in Pittsburgh, Pa.

Lord Aeck Sargent’s Texas predecessor firm designed the full interior and exterior restoration of the courthouse. The project included the restoration of ornate interiors, including the original tile floor and grand staircase, the relocation of the elevator to a more historically sensitive location, the installation of a new HVAC system and the rehabilitation of the building’s windows. The slate roof and distinctive tower were restored in an earlier phase.

The building was rededicated in 2010.
